How to heal your tattoo with clear bandage aka “second skin”

Updated: Apr 29

I will tell you a little secret — your tattoo will heal whether you do something for it or not :) But you can make this process easier and healthier by following the instructions below.

This method is recommended for those who received the protective clear bandage, usually called “second skin,” after their tattoo session.

Ok, here we go:

Step 1: Keep the bandage on for 3 days.

During these 3 days, do not steam the skin, do not sweat excessively, and avoid baths. Showers are fine, but use normal water temperature.

Step 2: After 3 days, remove the bandage.

To make it easier: go to the shower, turn on slightly hot water, put your tattoo under running water, and wait a bit. Then gently remove the plastic. It’s important to clean your skin of glue, blood, and ink after removing it!

Next — wipe it with a clean towel or paper towel. Let it air dry, and then you can apply ointment or butter.

Step 3: It is important to maintain hygiene EVERY DAY while it’s healing!

I recommend washing the tattoo about 3–5 times a day using water and antibacterial soap — shower or sink, whatever you prefer.

That’s it! :)

Here are some extra tips for you:

  • The tattoo should be moisturized every time after it’s been cleaned — but only with a thin layer of ointment or butter.

  • As a moisturizer, I recommend something with natural, clean ingredients. I’ll give you a healing tattoo butter after the session for your aftercare, or you can buy something else.

  • A tattoo is considered healed after three to four weeks. During healing, keep it clean and moisturized every day.

When the tattoo looks matte, it means it’s healed and you don’t need to do anything anymore. Just enjoy your new ink :)

Ah! And don’t forget to apply sunscreen every time you’re outside during the day from May to October.

Cheers 🥂
